Eyes, Skin, and Lips

Now that the lazy, crazy, hazy days of summer will be coming to an end soon, we are beginning to see more sophisticated make-up trends for autumn. One of the biggest trends for the fall is clear, smooth, fresh looking skin. Light foundation and cover up can give the appearance of flawless skin, creating a blank canvas that you can play with and highlight. Definition in the eyes, lips and cheeks is the next step.

Bright, colorful eyes are one of the biggest fashion trends you will be seeing this season. Dark eyeliner and smoky eyes have been around and “in” forever, but now try using an unexpected color like blue or green to make your eyes really pop.

Long lashes are another trend that will draw admiring looks at your eyes. An eyelash curler and some lengthening mascara will give you the added length and volume you are looking for…and that other people will be looking at! To prevent clumping, be sure to apply a second coat of dark mascara before the first coat is dry.

With lips, you can either go really dark or really pale, but whichever you choose, make sure it balances out your eyes. If you go dark with your eyes, dress your lips in a pale shade that’s very close to your natural color. If you
go light with your eye make-up, a dark lip color will really draw the attention to your lips without making them look overdone. Your lips and eyes should never look like they are competing for attention!

Dewey cheeks are always in style, but the first rule of autumn is to toss out the bronzer and grab a fruity color. A pink cream blush will last for hours and you can control the exact shade and placement by blending with your fingertips. Blush placement is important, too – don’t go for “drawing in” fake cheekbones. Rather, apply color on the “apple” of your cheek – it will look much more natural and help you avoid the harsh “made-up look.”

Remember not to overdo it. If you go dark on one feature, keep the other features light. And keep in mind that glowing skin is always in fashion and that dull skin is considered a sign of aging, so be sure to drink plenty of water, get as close to 8 hours of sleep per night as you can, and take your vitamins.
