Wallace Still Looking. John Wallace of Barber’s Crossing continues to look for restaurant space in Worcester. He has gone so far as to hire business brokerage firm George & Company to find him a suitable location in either the Greendale or Summit areas of Worcester. Ideally, Wallace would like to locate once again in the Greendale section of the city as it was the location of his first restaurant, before he expanded to Cherry Valley and Sterling.

George Washington Really Stayed Here. Ye Olde Tavern, located on East Main St. in West Brookfield, is on the market. The tavern, which has been in continuous operation since 1760, has played host to George Washington, President John Adams, and Daniel Shay of Shay’s Rebellion fame, among others. The Tavern would make an ideal B&B since it already has 11 rooms. Currently, it is only used for banquets and has a bar, open seven days a week.

Plantation Club Closes. One of Worcester’s most venerable venues for live music recently closed its doors. The Plantation Club on Plantation Street in Worcester has a For Sale sign on the front. The club, owned by Ray Silva for close to 20 years, featured good music and decent food.

This Sad Note.  We mourn the passing of John Nicas of the Castle Restaurant in Leicester.  John, a fixture on the local dining scene, was a graduate of the Culinary Institute of American and taught at Johnson & Wales University.  He was a member of the 1988 Culinary Olympic Team and won the Grand Prize as well as a silver and a bronze medal.  He is survived by his father Stanley, his brother James, and his sister Evangeline, all of the Castle Restaurant.
