Up & Comers: Primary Others

Bands You May Not Have Heard of Yet…But You Will!

September 2005 -

We here at thePULSE are committed to giving local bands who are just under the radar, whot haven’t quite broken through yet, a little push. There’s a catch, though ~ we’ll only feature a band if they first nominate a band for the next issue, and so on. Camaraderie and support amongst local musicians, that’s what it’s all about. So check out this section to read more about some talented musicians who might just be the next big thing!

When you hear the word "Primary,” images of high school calculus may flood back to you in horrific waves, bearing with them the remembrance of that ridiculous math teacher who wore his pants up to his man- nipples. The band "Primary Others" hopes to change the dreaded mathematical association by replacing it with an image of a band that delivers the liveliest fusion of sound and originality that the Worcester area has to offer.

When asked what his and Primary Others’ musical influences were, Josh Mclean didn’t hesitate for a second when offering up the Top Three List of inspiring artists: The first was Run DMC, the second was Slayer, and the third Mr. Marley himself. So what does one wear when going to see and hear this musically spacious group whose jives range from homegrown stylings on the mic to layers of reggae and rock beats? We don't know, and judging by their chill attitudes, we’re pretty sure the band doesn’t really care.

Straight out of Waltham, Primary Others lays down the funk and a persistently optimistic attitude that carries over into their growing fan base. Those of you who are already fans of the band may be quite delighted to learn that you are looked upon as both "rabid and loyal" by the band’s members. These members ~ Oak LoneTree,(vocals) White Mic vocals), Paul Chiasson (drums), Cory Rosenberg (guitar) and Joshua McLean (bass) ~ live for the people who love their music, something apparent in their user-friendly and flavorful website (www.primaryothers.com).

If you aren't already foaming at the mouth over these guys, believe us, you should be. The band's growth in the last year has
helped them expand the geographic range of venues they play and has helped them create a better idea of where they are going. The future goals of these fine young men include "…moving a little further West, a little further out, and a little further on." Oh, and let’s not forget “…being right in the front cover of thePULSE."

If their charming haircuts and witty personalities don't do the trick, maybe you should take the time to check out some of their FREE music online. No chance of desktop embarrassment here, the tunes are upbeat and rhythmic, setting a cool vibe that makes you look good (Warning, though: The dancing that might result from listening to these tunes is done at your own risk!).

Some of the Band's fondest moments of playing live come from our very own Wormtown events, and this month brings them the opportunity to continue on their positive Worcester concert experience roll. They’ll be showing off their fab flavor at The 6th Annual Wormtown Music Festival on Sept. 16th, 17th and 18th, so check out http://www.wormtown.com/wormfest/ for more information.
