02.11 WAKE UP FEST – Benefit Shows for The Deftones Bassist Chi Cheng
Following a tragic car accident on November 3rd, 2008, Chi Cheng, bassist for the world-renowned hard rock band The Deftones, has been in a state of semi-consciousness after suffering severe TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury).
Under the supervision of Dr. DeFina, Chief Scientific Officer and founder of International Brain Research Foundation (www.ibrfinc.org/), Chi has shown remarkable signs of recovery. Although great strides and great progress have been made in administering a pioneering method of treatment to wake Chi up, funds are needed to continue his treatment and bring him back to total consciousness.
Chi’s mother, Jeanne Cheng, his brother, Ming Cheng, and family friends Gina Blackmore and Dennis Morrow have been working tirelessly to raise awareness and money for continuing Chi’s treatment. On Saturday, January 22nd, WAKE UP FEST kicked off its series of shows around the world that will be donating 100% of their ticket sales to the cause. A complete list of shows can be found at wakeupfest.com.
Shows are being scheduled well into 2011, and will continue to roll on as long as people are willing to play and raise money for Chi. On top of the benefit shows, national recording artists are being asked to donate $.25 from their ticket sales from any specified show to help get Chi to a treatment facility in New Jersey for six months of rehabilitation. Relocation is still an issue, and anyone willing to donate a motor home, tour bus, or any other mode of transportation to get Chi from coast to coast is urged to contact the family at www.oneloveforchi.com.
If you give to one charity this year, let it be this one. Individual donations can be made through www.oneloveforchi.com. So many beautiful people have come together to raise money for a phenomenal human being who deserves a second chance; and what better way to do it than through music, something so near and dear to Chi that has the power to unite people of all races and creeds across the globe for positive change. Come out to the shows and be a part of this truly amazing movement.
In Music, Healing and Prayer,
The Chi Cheng Family of Friends
